This week, the pool at the Hollywood Rec Center reopened, unveiling tons of added features (slide!) and a 1950s-inspired pool house. The project’s been under construction since the fall of 2013, but the wait has clearly been worth it. The 9,575-square-foot pool now has a swirling slide, bleachers topped by shade structures, lifeguard chairs, and something called an “integrated splash area,” according to a release for the reopening. Next to the pool, the sleek pool house, designed by Frank R. Webb Architects, Inc., is equipped with airy changing rooms and a bag-check, all under its Googie-esque roof.
The mid-summer reopening was a welcome one for Councilman Mitch O’Farrell, who reps the area and who christened the pool by diving into it wearing pants and a button-up.
